The TVS Jupiter has been one of the highest selling scooters in India, second only to the Honda Activa. It was originally launched in 2013 as an alternative to the Activa and is positioned as a more premium, feature-packed 110cc family scooter. The Jupiter has been loved by Indian family buyers thanks to its comfortable ride quality, good fuel efficiency and practicality. While it has seen many small updates over the years, including the transition to BS6 in 2020, TVS launched an all-new second generation of the Jupiter in 2024. This update got a majorly updated engine, refreshed design and quite a few more features.

TVS Jupiter 110

I’ve spent quite a bit of time riding the Jupiter right from the first generation scooter to even the latest 2024 model, which had come for a long-term test at BikeDekho. Most of my time on this latest Jupiter - about 3-4 weeks, was spent during my daily commutes from home to office and back, on the congested streets of Pune. And while I haven’t done any inter-city rides on the Jupiter, a big chunk of my commute includes the highway, where I got a chance to stretch its legs too.

TVS Jupiter Safety Features

The Jupiter gets a combined braking system (SBT or Synchronised Braking Technology, as TVS calls it). This automatically applies the front brake every time you use the rear brake to ensure even brake force distribution, and helps prevent the scooter from skidding when braking hard on a slippery surface.

It also gets an emergency brake warning feature, which automatically flashes the indicators during emergency braking. And although I would not classify this as a true ‘safety feature’, the self cancelling indicators automatically turn off when you’ve finished your turn, and I believe this will help keep riders safer on the road as it won’t send any confusing signals to traffic behind them. The Jupiter now also features a side-stand cut-off feature that won’t let the scooter start if the side stand is still down.

TVS Jupiter Convenience Features

Now I’ve only ridden the SmartXonnect Disc variant of the new Jupiter, and it came with a fully digital instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity. With my smartphone connected using the TVS Connect app, it enabled features like turn-by-turn navigation with voice assist (although I had to use my paired helmet headset for this, but a wired headset with your phone can also work), call/message alerts, and ‘Find my vehicle’ which marked the scooter’s last parked location on the app. Apart from these features, the console also shows average fuel efficiency as well as a distance to empty indicator - the latter of which I really appreciated having. That said, the display itself is quite small, which leaves a lot of dead space in the console housing, and its size also makes it quite hard to read sometimes, as the information can feel a bit cluttered.

The SmartXonnect variants also get a ‘Follow me headlamp’ feature which basically keeps the scooter’s headlight on for a couple of minutes after it's parked - very useful if you’re parking the Jupiter in a dark location. The new Jupiter’s fuel tank is located under the floorboard (first seen on the Jupiter 125), which has not only freed up a lot of space under the seat for storage, but it has also moved the fuel filler cap on the inside of the front apron. This made it extremely convenient when refuelling, as I never had to get off the seat at a petrol pump. There’s also a USB charging port located above the cubby hole on the apron next to the multi-function key slot - great for charging your phone on the go, but this Type-A port has a fairly low output and took forever to charge my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I really wish TVS would’ve given a Type-C port with higher output for today’s larger phones.

Storage and Practicality (4/5)

TVS Jupiter underseat storage

The Jupiter scores really high on practicality. Thanks to the fuel tank being moved to under the floorboard, the underseat storage has become a segment-leading 34-litres, which can easily accommodate two half-face helmets, or even a smaller full-face helmet. I could easily fit my full office backpack - laptop and all, under the seat, or even carry a couple of weeks worth of groceries comfortably. But there’s no boot lamp, which I thought was a bit of a downer.
