Prepare a clean, level subfloor or wall surface. Plan your tile layout, dry-lay a few rows to check alignment and pattern. Mix tile adhesive as directed, spread evenly with a notched trowel and place tiles with spacers. Allow to set, then apply grout between joints. Wipe excess grout and let cure fully before regular use.

Tiles are thin, flat pieces of material used to cover floors, walls and other surfaces. Most tiles are made from ceramic, porcelain, stone or vitrified materials. They provide a durable, easy-to-clean finish and come in many sizes, textures and designs, ideal for homes, offices and commercial projects.

Tiles are modular units, usually square or rectangular, used as a hard-wearing surface layer. Floor and wall tiles help protect underlying structures, add style and make cleaning easier. In home improvement, tiles are chosen for their strength, water resistance, design variety and suitability for kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms and exteriors.

Most tiles are made from clay-based materials like ceramic and porcelain, fired at high temperatures for strength and durability. Other tiles can be made from natural stone, such as granite and marble, or from glass and vitrified compounds. Each material offers different looks, water absorption levels and maintenance needs for flooring and walls.

Tiles work by forming a protective, decorative layer over floors or walls when bonded with adhesive or mortar. Once fixed and grouted, the tiled surface becomes water resistant, easier to clean and more durable than bare concrete or plaster. Proper installation, spacing and sealing ensure tiles stay strong and attractive for years.

To tile a floor, first ensure the base is clean, dry and level. Plan your layout from the center or a straight reference line. Apply tile adhesive with a notched trowel, place tiles using spacers and check alignment. After setting, fill joints with grout, clean the surface and allow curing before walking on it.
